We are a family of faith, serving Christ, welcoming you on your journey with God. We serve the needs of our community as an expression of God’s love through purposeful prayer, education, worship and service. |
Teens&Twenties We have changed format!!! No more Youth Group meetings after church. Breanna Pratt is leading a Jr. High+Sr. High Sunday School group in the Library Room (next to the office) each Sunday. Because it seemed crazy to have the Teens together for Sunday School and then again right after church for youth group, we decided to combine them! The teen Sunday School and Youth Program will meet every Sunday in the Library Room ~9:45–10:45am. Rock and/or Robin Hunter will fill in when Breanna cannot be there. TEENS CAMPOUT!!! Saturday-Sunday May 19–20. We will leave from the church at 8am Saturday May 19 and return ~11am Sunday May 20. This will be a basic car-camping trip to Irvine Lake, about a 30 minute drive from the church. You can go fishing or hiking, take a walk around the lake, sit in the shade, socialize with friends or just hang around and do nothing at all! We will for sure make smores around the campfire Saturday night. THIS IS A GREAT EVENT TO INVITE A FRIEND ALONG!!! You will need your basic camping stuff- sleeping bag and toiletries (see the list below). We have a couple big tents. They have hot showers for $1. The lake charges every person 13 and over a $22/day access fee just to enter and we are staying one day+night. We are asking each youth to bring their $22 access fee. The Youth Program will pay for all food and campsite fees. The $22 access fee includes the cost of fishing (whether you fish or not) but a California State Fishing License in NOT required! ALL ATTENDEES UNDER AGE 18 MUST HAVE A SIGNED PERMISSION FORM FOR THIS EVENT!!! (See link below.) Only 8 people may stay overnight and 7 have RSVP’ed- Keith, David, Mike, Dylan, Anthony, Rock and Robin. One overnight spot left! Update 2012–05–17: Keith, Mike and David had to cancel! 4 spots now open! People have asked if they can come for Saturday only and go home that evening- sure! You are most welcome to do this, but please keep in mind you still must pay the $22 admission fee AND bring a filled out permission form. Depending on when you want to go, you may have to have your parents drive you out and definitely would need them to pick you up at the lake. Please call or text Rock Hunter 619 787–7625 ASAP if you want to go. Click on the Campout_Gear_List link below to see the list of stuff you should bring.
This is a little ways off, but we will hold a BONFIRE AT THE BEACH!!! on Friday August 10, 2012. Why? Because it is Breanna’s birthday! Mark it on your calendar now, 7–9pm, Corona Del Mar Beach. YOU MUST HAVE A SIGNED PERMISSION FORM FOR THIS EVENT!!! (See link above.) Teens&Twenties is a group of young Christians currently ranging in age from 12 to 22. We have young people from Jr. High through College age. We care about each other, the world we live in and our church. We are ready to do some things on our own, to change some things we believe need changing and to make a difference through what we do. We are aware of 18 young people in this age range in our church. If you are one of those 18 (or someone else in our age range), you are welcome to join us. We would like to get to know you and help you get to know us. We have identified some things we might like to do. Ideas include go karting, bike riding, picnics, sports in parks, getting to know each other, cooking and eating lunch or dinner together, museums, art shows, concerts, what does it mean to be a Christian?, fishing, beach trips, tide pools, baseball, football, ice skating, roller skating, broom hockey, dances, movies, just sitting in a circle and talking, service projects, habitat for humanity, learn about the Bible, snow skiing, campouts, frisbee, movies, service projects, soup kitchen, what (and why) are the other churches and how are they different from us?, visit other youth groups. What ideas do you have? Email them to rhunter@stjohncm.org. The Los Angeles Diocese Program Group for Youth Ministry (PGYM) holds diocesan wide events for youth as well.
