Announcements for AUGUST and SEPTEMBER 2010 For Diocesan news, visit The Episcopal News. For National news, visit the Episcopal News Service. For Worldwide news, visit the Anglican Communion News Service. We are a family of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ who are seeking and doing God’s will, by meeting the spiritual and social needs of our members and neighbors in the Episcopal tradition. |
Announcements for AUGUST and SEPTEMBER 2010 Please know that all are welcome at St. John’s. We invite you to worship with us, to join us as we learn and love and serve our Lord. Game Night! Back by popular demand, we will meet on Friday, August 20th, for a potluck supper and games. Last time, we played scrabble and a card game; bring your favorites! 6:30 p.m. It’s sale time for school supplies. We invite you to purchase school supplies for the children at Orangewood. Each of our Sunday School children has been given $5 and the charge to see how much they can purchase with this money. Adults are welcome, too! (but you’re on your own for the money!). Please bring your supplies on Sunday, August 22nd. The men at the Rainbow Prison project need pillows. If you have a gently used or new pillow, please bring it in. Sue will deliver them. Our total to send to Miles of Pennies for this year is $270.21. Combined with our previous giving, we have gone a total of just over 3/4 of a mile. Keep those pennies coming! We keep in our prayers our companions in the Diocese of Mexico. Bible Study meets on Monday evenings at 7. We are currently studying the Gospel of John. All are welcome! (No class on August 23, 30 and September 6.) Daughters of the King meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 for prayer and fellowship. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, August 10. Friday with Friends is on Friday, August 13 this month. Join us and our friends at the Manor at 600 p.m. for a bbq chicken dinner. September’s dinner is on Friday, September 10. Tea and Company is on vacation for August; in September, we meet on Thursday, September 23rd at 3:00 p.m at the Manor. Why not start your Christmas Club now? Save all year round for a gift at Advent. With our 2009 gifts we were able to purchase 9 goats through Episcopal Relief and Development to go to needy families. Hooray! This year, we will help to fix up our Sunday School room with new furniture, sink, carpets, and paint. Do you have clothes you no longer need? Clothes for men, women, and children are needed for those in shelters. Imagine what it means to a homeless person to be able to go into a “boutique” and select clothes to wear. Please include your name and address if you would like a receipt for tax purposes. The food for August is canned fruit; for September, it is toiletries. Staple food items are always welcome. Thanks for remembering those who do not have enough to eat. Your donations go to BCIS. Socks! one of the most needed items for people on the street, and for the children who come to Orangewood. New or gently used socks for men, women, and children are much appreciated. Please bring your newspapers to recycle. You can leave them in the box in the Guild Room. Help care for God’s creation!
